Joulutorttu

Joulutorttu

– marmelada do voso sabor preferido
– 1 ovo
– 1 culleradiña de esencia de vainilla
– azucre en po

Preparación paso a paso:

Joulutorttu

After travelling to Germany with the Spritzgebäck biscuits, and to Italy to prepare the Panettone, we go back to the North again to prepare these super cute Jouluttortu. They come from Finland and they’re one of the quickest recipe I’ve ever made! These pinwheels are usually made at Christmas, hence the name, which literally means: Christmas cake. The typical jam for the joulutorttu is prune jam, but if you don’t have, don’t like it or just prefer to use a different one, do it, they will be super delicious anyway. Let’s go!

Ingredients for 12 jouluttortu:

– 1 disk puff pastry
– jam (any flavour you love)
– 1 egg
– 1 tsp vanilla essence
– powdered sugar

Step by step preparation:

1. The first thing we have to do is cutting the pastry. I did squares of 8×8 cm and the size was the perfect one. To cut it, just use a rule and a pizza cutter 🙂

2. Then, make a cut on each angle of the square, but not getting to the middle of it, as you can see in the picture.

3. Pour some jam in the middle.

4. And fold the sides. We start with one side, leave one, take the next…and continue until you have four folded and four unfolded. Take all the sides and place them together on the center.

5. Beat the egg and the vanilla essence and brush the joulutorttus.

6. Bake for around 12-15 minutes at 200ºC until they are golden brown.

7. Garnish with some powdered sugar and that’s it!

If you like puff pastry and jam, these joulutorttu are going to become one of your favourite Christmas sweet treats ever! Besides, at this time of the year in which we spend a lot of time in the kitchen, it’s good to have some dessert we can do and surprise our guests without having to bake for hours! To prepare them, you0ll just need 20 minutes, and if you have the chance of cooking with your kids, they’ll be excellent kitchen helpers!
