Torta de Guinness / Guinness Cake

Feliz día nacional da torta a todos!!!

image

O libro de onde saquei esta receita chámase: “The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days: Recipes to make every day special.”

image

Preparación paso a paso:

image

image

2. Deixámola arrefriar un pouquiño. Mentres, batemos os dous ovos, o leite amargo e maila vainilla.

image

3. Cando a cervexa e a manteiga xa estean máis tépedas, engadimos o azucre e mailo cacao. Mesturamos todo ben.

image

image

image

4. Xuntamos ámbalas dúas mesturas.

image

5. Noutro bol, botamos a fariña, o fermento e o bicarbonato. E engadímoslle a mestura de cervexa. Batemos de novo.

image

image

image

image

8. Batemos a manteiga a temperatura ambiente.

Happy National Cake Day!!!

image

And to celebrate it, we’re going to prepare this delicious Guinness Cake!

I took this recipe from a Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook. If any of you has happened to go to London, this will ring the bell for sure! Last year, in my first visit to London, I ate a tasty cupcake on this bakery in Notting Hill, in Portobello Road. And it was reeeally yummy! So, if you have the opportunity of going to London, I recommend you to go to
Portobello market and have a cupcake or a piece of cake in this beautiful bakery.

The book I took this recipe from is called: “The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days: Recipes to make every day special.” We can find different recipes for special times of the year, such as Christmas or Halloween. This recipe was the one to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, but as it is amazingly tasty, we can prepare it to celebrate National Cake Day as well! 😉

And what do we need?

Ingredients for the cake:

image

– 250 ml Guinness beer
– 250 gr unsalted butter
– 80 gr cocoa powder
– 400 gr sugar
– 2 big eggs
– 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
– 140 ml buttermilk* (*lemon)
– 280 gr flour
– 2 teaspoons baking soda
– 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

*You can do buttermilk by adding one tablespoon of lemon to the milk.

Ingredients for the cheese buttercream:

image

– 50 gr unsalted butter, at room temperature
– 300 gr powdered sugar
– 125 gr cream cheese
– cocoa powder to decorate (optional)

Utensils: a pan, two bowls, a whisk and a spring form tin with tin foil and butter.
Preparation time: around 30 minutes
Baking time: c. 45 minutes

Step by step preparation:

1. In a pan, add the Guinness and the butter and heat it until the butter has melted and both ingredients have fully integrated.

image

2. Let it cool for a while. Meanwhile, beat the eggs, the vanilla essence and the buttermilk.

image

3. When the beer and butter mixture is not too hot, add the sugar and the cocoa and mix well.

image

image

image

4. Put the two mixtures together.

image

5. In another bowl, add the flour, the baking powder and the baking soda. Mix them. Add the previous beer mixture and beat.

image

image

image

6. Pour the batter into the mould and bake it for 45 minutes at 170°C / 350°F, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.

7. Let it cool before removing it from its mould. It’s important to let the cake cool before decorating it with the cheese buttercream.

image

(Kukitip: if the cake is not flat on top, you can turn it and use it the other way around!)

image

8. Beat the butter at room temperature. And add the powdered sugar bit by bit. Don’t worry if you see the mixture is too dry, it will become smoother when adding the cream cheese.

image

image

9. Add the cheese, and mix again until creamy.

image

10. Decorate the cake with the cheese buttercream, using a spatula or a butter knife.

image

11. If you want, you can sprinkle some cocoa powder over it. And that’s it!

image

Important! Don’t keep the cake in the fridge to prevent the cheese buttercream to end up very hard!

The truth is that this cake is unbelievably yummy!!! If I were you, I would’t wait for St Patrick’s Day to come! 😉

If you have any doubt or comment, please let me know! And if you prepare any of these recipes, and you take a picture, send it to me to kukinhasblogue@gmail.com and I will pin it on the blog!
